Production Log 9

This week i have been ill so i haven't been able to help my group as much as i would of liked to to get this music video complete but this week was our final deadline to finish of the music video and we did complete it in the end and it turned out to look very nice, our final product was 3 minutes long, the only trouble we had was we were missing performance shots which we got this week and implemented them into our work and it turned out very nice because the actors singing matches the song very well and it makes them look like they are singing which was what we were aiming for so that was great, if we got our performance shots earlier we would of had more time to touch up on the music video and make it look a bit more professional because we sometimes used the same performance shots when we could have used different location to make it look more effective because you can clearly see they are repeated due to the body language and location, the only problem was that i was really ill so i was out for mostly the whole week leaving my team with just two of them, even tho they are capable of completing the last bit of the music video i would of liked to been there and help  them out to finish it but i was really ill and had to stay at home to recover.

Production Log 8

This week we have been doing as much editing as we can so we can have a draft ready so our teachers can tell us what we could do to improve and what we could add to make the music video better, this gives us the weekend to record, at the moment we definitely need to record over the weekend because we are missing shots to make up the time for the rest of our music video, the main shots that we are missing is performance where our actors sing into the camera to make it look like it is them singing the song in the music video, adding these shots will help us reach the end of our music video but make it much more professional to watch because at the moment all we have is our actors developing a story line and doesn't really have anything special happening in it, but so far our music video is looking good because we have made everything match the beat of the music video so it runs smoothly adding performance will give us a professional music video because it allows you to see the actors singing while hearing the exact words coming out of there mouth so it looks identical and you would think that they are actually singing.

Production Log 7

This week has been different from last week because we now have a new companion who joined our work, already he has helped us and looked through our work and put in his own ideas that we thought worked well and added them in, his name is Kesean and it is good we took him because we get along well with him and he is good at getting work done so we now have 3 people working on the music video, at the moment we have done 2:30 mins of the music video and it is looking good, we need to replace some shots due to the fact they are just too dark so when we re-shoot the shots we will have to make sure there are either lights on all the time or when its outside it has to be during the light hours. So far our music video is working very well just part from we have to many jump cuts so we will have to remove some of these to make it flow better because all we really did was chop up the motions and this stopped the music video from flowing smoothly. Next week we are planning to be finished because we only have 1:30 mins left to edit and we have a whole week to edit so we will definitely be finished with our final product by the end of next week.

Production Log 6

This week we have begun on editing and to be fair we  have got off to a really good start, we have only done the first 40 second's of our song but what we have done is we have strictly stayed to sticking to the bass of the song so every time you hear it we edit a cut so it goes to a new scene, but we ran into our clips being to long but we still needed them so i came up with the idea of using jump cuts into our song, so when Kori is walking in the park you don't see the full motion but you see him jumping forward while walking in our song and it works very well, i think this week has been the most successful because out of everything that could go wrong with editing none of that happened and we just managed to get stuck into it, so next week we are looking to do the same thing and just get stuck into our work, and what made it better was that it was fun editing so for us this means we enjoy doing our work and will put a lot of effort that is needed to make our music video the best that we can possibly do, but both of us have contributed a lot to this music video and in my opinion this is good because this allows us to get both our ideas that we both like into the music video making it something we both enjoy working on.

Production Log 5

This week was a interesting week because we began recording and we had our days planned out, but the English weather struck and it held us up for a few days leaving us near the end of the week to record, but we overcome this by getting all the recording done in one day that we thought would take two days. It also helped that our actors lived right next to Romford because it was only like a 10 minute walk making it easier to record. The problem that i had encountered was we was going to record on a day where i went to my mum and dads but we worked round this because we recorded the day i came back it helped because our actors also chose media so they took our work serious and allowed us to get on with the recording. We followed our script very well but we did take out some scenes because they did not make sense but in the end we replaced the shots which we decided would suit our film better, in the end we got all our recording done and we made sure to overshoot so when we come to editing next week we can choose the best bits from the lot and put it in, this helps because we have different shots of the same thing.

Production Log 4

This week me and my partner have been working hard on our shooting script going through it and checking if there were any mistakes, we eventually saw mistakes we made them and quickly corrected them leaving us with a script that we both agreed on that would work, we than filled in where we are shooting and if we needed any permission for our shots, we had our actors sign a permission slip giving us their permission to be in the film, overall this week has been a good and successful week because when we ran into problems we were able to overcome them and we got all our work done, next week we are planning to complete all of our recording ready to come and edit, during this week we also filled out a sheet of all the hazards that could possibly happen in the locations we are filming, we filled in as much as we could think of for each location and how much of a risk does it show. So really this week we are on a good schedule and not running behind, next week is half term so this will allow us to have full days to record which on our hand is great because in our scenes we need a bright day to emphasis our song better, so very good week and we already have next week planned to get the recording done so we have run into no problems that could prevent us from completing our work.

Production Schedule

Permission

For houses we don't need permission because they our own houses and we need them to record so no permission is needed, Romford we don't need permission and the same as the park because these are public locations and therefore we can record in these locations, so therefore we don't need permission for our shots that we have chosen.

Locations Reccies

Job Roles & Responsibilities

In our music video their will be four of us, this consists of Me, Connor, Monique & Kori.

I am the chosen role of director because i am a more mature and will work hard to get our music video complete but because also it is my song that we chose to do and i know how i would want it to look, i can also work around thing if something goes wrong, as i have done media before i know what it should take to get good shots for our music video because we have done projects like this before but not music videos.

Connor is going to be the camera man because he has done media before i can trust him to work on the camera and i will be there to help him also so we can get good shots for our music video, he knows all the camera shots and angles which is perfect for us and we have worked in groups before so i do trust him on the camera.

Kori & Monique, will be our actors and we chose them because they are reliable but also what we need in our song because our song is about love and we need a couple with that connection and because they are a couple its better than choosing people who aren't because they might not be willing to do things such as holding hands or anything and it could look awkward.

Production Log Week 3

From last week me and my partner were working on our music video, this was working on a shooting script that will help us when recording, at the moment we are still working on it and this week we have added in a lot more than what we done last week and we moved things around so that it would make more sense, in order to make it more interesting we have shots changing location every 10 shots or so, this stops it from being in one location and being boring for our audience, we are hoping to finish the shooting script this week so that we can move onto recording sooner, we have already got our cast for music video which is very helpful, we also chose Kori and Monique because they are very trustworthy people and we know that, if we picked people who we cant rely on than we most likely wouldn't be able to finish the recording because they wouldn't show up, so for us now we are on a steady track, we are not behind or in front of our plans we are just on point, there is also a good chance we will be able to start recording next week which is perfect for us because after next week we have a week off school were we can start recording and get all our shots ready to come back into school to begin editing, so for now we are on a good steady track.

Production Log Week 2

As of this week we have started on our script for the music video, this consists of us using different camera language and different shots to match the song we have chosen, last week we decided what song we would pick and we picked mine so this week we have been trying to script out our ideas so that when we come to recording the music video we will know how it will look and what we have to do as we can follow the script. The hard part about doing this script is that we must come up with different shots that move smoothly but also matches the songs speed, so when me and my partner are writing out the script we exchange ideas and we go with the one that sounds more realistic, as the song we chosen is fairly slow we will need to come up with about 100-150 shots this is roughly 2 second's per shot, the reason for having so many is because their is a specific beat that we are following, in my song the main instrument is a piano and you can hear the piano every 2-3 second's, so every time you hear the piano key we will change shot so its basically cutting to the beat but to the piano, this will make our music video run smoothly as the sound and the visual will be working together allowing the audience to stay focused, this stops them from just watching the clips and blanking out the song.

Pitch Reflection

- I would like to give more detail on what i want my idea to actually be like, at the start of my music video i want them to be in a park where the women is sitting on the bench reading a book and than the male actor walks past and they see each other, this is where the love at first sight comes in because i want to show to the camera the instant connection between each others faces, than as they introduce each other you will see their love for each other progress, this will be shown by them going on a date to a restaurant, than once their date is finished they head on home where they continue to think of each other, i will show this by having a split screen where you can see them texting each other and getting their reactions, this is why close ups are important in my video as i want to show the emotion flowing through the song, when we reach the end of the song you will see them sitting on the same bench they had met at just to make a romantic and happy ending to the song.

- As a Strength they liked the idea where i mentioned that you'll be able to see both my actors at the same time on the screen in different locations, the split screen, this allows me to show both their reactions to each other from different locations such as when they are texting you can see if they are smiling, giggling or any other emotion that they show, this makes my song more realistic because you don't just see the text being sent and seeing no reaction to it, you can seeing them both texting each other meaning you can see what each person is doing, this would be a use of edit that i will have to use on final cut express which i will learn and find out how to actually do this which will have both people on the screen just in different locations making it more exciting and interesting.

- For my improvements i would need to use more locations because at the moment the only two locations i have is local parks and houses to record in, so if i want to make my music video more interesting i would need to expand more on thinking of locations to film in, because if i only recorded in two places the video would get quite boring, i was thinking of shooting at a restaurant but that would need permission so if i can't get permission than i would definitely need somewhere else to record as i want my music video to be interesting and having time to record i am able to do this and find different locations for my recording.

- If there were any changes i needed to make i would change the locations of where i would record because if i want my music video to look more appealing than i would need to record in more places to make it more interesting as if i were recording in one place the whole time it would get boring very quickly seeing the same shots over and over this i can do because i have plenty of recording time to shoot in other places so its very do-able and as i am keeping most shots local and maybe some shots not so local, recording should be easy to get done as long as we focus on the work and get it done than we should have no problems in getting it done.

Production Log Week 1

During this week we had to get into partners for the music video that we will creating, and because we had two different songs we had to choose which song we would use, at the end we decided to go with mine because we thought that i had good ideas for my music video and the song sounded quite easy to make a video to, the partner i am working with is someone i have known since nursery so i know quite a lot about them as in how committed they are to their work and because of this we decided to work together, we had both done media in the past and had worked in the same groups before so we were coming up with some very good ideas for the music video we will be creating. Also during the start of the week we was watching others give their presentations about their songs and i had kept in mind to choose the person that i think i could work appropriately with and could understand, it ended up that both are songs were about romance so because of this we were able to take ideas from his presentation and put it into mine which was very handy as we are combining are ideas to make a better one, as i said that my partner has done media before they know all about the recording side so he fits perfectly into my crew as he knows how to operate a camera so if i need him to do that than i can trust him on it which is very helpful and gives me an advantage as if i didn't pick someone who has no experience with cameras.
The video below shows why and how we will work together in producing the music video and how well we will work together.

What i know about my artist Ace & Pearl - Falling So Fast

Genre:
Hip Hop, R&B
Duration:
04:03
Moods:
Happy, Romantic
Language:
English
Song Topics:
Falling in Love, Get Lifted
Main instrument:
Piano
Sounds like:
Nas, The Roots, Erikah Badu

Ace and Pearl is a duo consisting of Singer Songwriter Erin Elisabeth Aubrey and Hip Hop artist Customary. The two smoothly blend the styles of hip hop, jazz, and soul together to create an easy listening hip hop/r&b album. The two artists met on the east coast and continued writing music together as they went separate ways, as Erin left for Nashville, and Customary left for Boise. The entire album came together in one week as the two artists crammed all of the writing and recording into a small amount of time that they had together in Tennessee. You will not be disappointed in the spontaneous and serendipitous album by Ace and Pearl.

Locations- As the song is about romance and love i would be thinking of using something cheesy such as parks, i would probably use parks local such as St chads, Christie park Valentines park.

Clothing - I would have my main male actor wearing something smart like jeans and a polo or a shirt, but i wouldn't have them wearing dark colours as i want them to stand out and use purer colours, i would have my female actor wear something like a sun dress or something to make her stand out from everyone else.

Typography - i would use this typography because it has that romance feel to it doesn't feel serious which is perfect because its more of a relaxing feel to it.

Mise-En-Scene - I would have my artist start off in the park as a cheesy music video where they have most of the shots walking around together holding hands and etc than use a house where they can stay together in a room playing around together in romance way and the song would end with them sitting on a bench together.

Colours - I would use bright colours such as a sky blue or white but no dark colours because the song is about love and you don't really associate love with dark colours, you can associate it with red as the heart is red.

What the song puts in you head - As all love songs they put does cheesy ideas in your head such as the typical bear with a heart, box of chocolates and stuff like that.
