99dollarmusicvideos.com

What is 99dollarmusicvideos.com?
They are a institution that help upcoming music artist and film makers with giving them a budget of $99, this is why they are called 99dollarmusicvideos because they only allow the budget of $99 to be used but they do the best they can with the equipment and money they have but they are always in control in what they do, the artist can do anything in their music video they wish as 99dollarmusicvideo has no control over the artist apart from the $99 budget they have set.

What is their ethos?
99dollarmusicvideos ethos are to have the artist create a music video within 24 hours with only $99 but to also edit in 24 hours this allows unsigned artists and filmmakers to work together to create the music video and make the video the best they can and show off their creativity.

What types, labels and genres of music appear on their YouTube channel?
The type of genres you can find on 99dollarmusicvideos YouTube channel is more of rock and hip hop but the YouTube channel its self helps promote their song by putting it forward and getting it seen which is good as the artists shown in the music videos are all independent meaning they are not signed to any big record labels so it is hard for them to get know without some sort of help, which is what 99dollarmusicvideos does.

What is the relationship between 99dollarmusicvideos.com, their film-makers and music acts?
They get a unsigned upcoming artist with a unknown filmmaker and give them a 24 hours to film and 24 hours to edit their music videos but with only $99, this bring them together to work as a team and create something at the best of their ability.

How does 99dollarmusicvideos.com encourage audience participation?
They encourage the audience because if you have a good creative mind for a music video and your on a low budget, it still shows you that you can create a good music video with not allot of money, all you need is a good camera and around $99 to make a good looking music video.

Is it possible to make a professional quality music videos for $99?
If they are committed and deter-mend enough and put in 100% when shooting and editing than maybe, maybe not the top top professional videos, so for a top professional music video no i don't think it is i possible as you need more than $99 for locations, props, crew, equipment and clothing all that together is over $99 so no. As from the video you can see that they tried their best but the effects were not the best and just made it look bad and the acting was horrible as well it didn't seem to flow very well.

Music Videos & Record Labels

Goodwin's Ideas About Music Videos

Who is Andrew Goodwin's - Andrew Goodwin is an Australian born from Sydney Tenor, Goodwin is the man who came up with the 7 key features of music video which are.

- Illustration
- Amplification
- Contradict
- Iconography
- Star Persona
- Voyeurism
Andrew Goodwin published the ideas listed above into a book he called Dancing in the Distraction Factor which is one of his books.

- Illustration - Illustration is just simply meaning to the songs lyrics by visual. Owl city - Fireflies does this because when you watch the music video if you listen to the lyrics and watch the video you can visually see it such as when he says fireflies a little gadget has fireflies written onto it so you can see what is being said in the video when he says it so you can visually see what he is saying by the little gadget showing us the words he is saying.

- Amplification - Amplification uses performance and narrative in their music videos. Eminem - Stan does this as you can see in the video that there is a person who wants to be just like him and he constantly writes letter to Eminem/Slim Shady but he never gets them and than Stan continues to think that Eminem is ignoring him and than ends as Stan driving off a bridge with his pregnant wife into a river to drown and than Eminem relies when writing the end of the letter the letters he got were from Stan and that Stan had killed himself.

- Contradict - Contradicting music videos mean it has nothing related to the song or lyrics so it the video is basically the opposite of what the song is saying. Jessie J - Price Tag ft. B.o.B does this because when watching the music video Jessie J says its not about the money, but what do you see when she says that? Her standing underneath a tree with money hanging off the branches, this is a contradiction because it is about the money and has money on a tree in the video.

- Iconography - Iconography links the music video with the genre it is for, they give you images which trigger a broader association and you can quickly link what genre of the video it is by looking at the music video. Tyga - Switch Lanes Feat The Game, they use things that we would associate with hip hop such as cars and the things they wear such as certain hats, chains and shoes we can identify the genre easy by the visuals they give us and the way they act throughout the music video.

- Star Persona - Star persona is about the artist, the artists is the key aspect of their music video, the artist can show a development which over time will raise awareness and gain a much larger audience this gives the artist an image, such as Wiz Khalifa shown as someone who smokes weed all the time, and he keeps this representation by mentioning it in most of his songs and if we think about weed we can relate it to Wiz Khalifa because he mentions and does it in his songs so many times it just becomes something we can remember such as the Adidas logo because we instantly know what its related to.

- Voyeurism - Artists like Nicki Minaj uses voyeurism alot during her music videos, voyeurism is where the artists uses sexual behavior in there music videos, Nicki Minaj does this by wearing clothing that reveals alot and in her videos she has shots where she is twerking and sexual performances such as that, this gains a larger audience especially in men because she is using a sexual behavior which most men would find 'Interesting' to watch because it is not as boring as other music videos, it basically allows the audience to get pleasure from watching the music video because even if the song was bad the visuals we get would disguise the sound and we would automatically think of it as a good video.

- Intertextual - An interextual music video tends to have some reference to a film which uses the same use of camera language and shots, such as Iggy Azaela 'Fancy' in her music video she uses scenes from the film 'Clueless' which she used exactly the same shots and camera angles but just changed it so she and other people were in it, if you watch 'Fancy' than watch 'Clueless' you can see that the shots are exactly the same so there is a massive similarity in this and other music videos use intertextual just like Iggy has done.

Music Video Techniques

A good Stop Motion - This is a good stop motion music video because all the way throughout the music video it shows stop motion, you can tell this is stop motion because they look like allot of pictures have been put together as close as possible but not close to make it look smooth because with every shot you can see the difference between each shot, this is good because it looks like it took allot of time to to get the shots the way they wanted them to and moving the clothes and objects around the room perfectly.

A bad Stop Motion - is Jackie Wilson - Reet Petite as it is basically clay moving and talking to the song which might have been amazing back than but now it is out of date and that isn't the sort of the stop motion that would appeal to people because if you go on YouTube it isn't that amazing because children can do it with Lego and the music video is probably low budget as they are playing with clay and taking a picture just by slightly moving it and putting it all together, you can tell by the small pauses every time it moves.

A good Special Effects - OK Go - The Writing's On the Wall this is a good video because it doesn't have any cuts which you usually see in a music video but in this one its all in one shot but looks like it took forever as it creates an illusion which is a sort of special effect for visual as all the way through it keeps you interested because the scene keeps changing even tho its all one shot also the camera was not thrown about everywhere it was smooth at making transitions to other locations, they were able to continue to do this because once one person finished their role they took control of the camera so the other person can get into place for their shot.

A bad Special Effects -  D double E - Street-fighter riddim this video has very bad special effects even though it is based around a game and supposed to be like street fighter themed, it just looks awful if you look to the up to date songs, at 1:40 watching that part of 10 seconds looks like the song isn't even professional; something made with limited budget it hasn't got any special effects that make you go 'wow' that was awesome, its just all low budget effects that look bad which doesn't show a good representation on the artist because if this is the first song you hear from him and you watch the video you'll think all his over videos are bad so from this video he could lose a majority of the audience he could of got if the video was more professional and look good.

A good green screen - This is a good green screen music video as during the the music video she moves behind the screen and you can still see her legs and you can see the pre-recording on the screen but her legs and the pre-recording matches, at 1:45 you can see she walks behind the screen and her legs match the movement, it creates the effect that you can actually see her behind the screen but by using this technique it allows her to add graphics and effects onto the screen and change clothes.

A bad green screen - This is Michael Jackson's song 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', this is a bad green screen because there is allot going on but none of it is relevant to make the video look good also it looks bad because it has low quality, even tho people may of thought this was great at the time, it is horrible to even look at and has to much going on, if you compare it to the music videos now that contain green screen they flow with the song and fit very well but this is quite a old song and it doesn't do that, the backgrounds chosen for the green screen are too much, it would fit more if the chosen background was a location or place more realistic because it wouldn't look weird, because its always normal having something dance in front of ice cubes that look like dominoes.

Good Lip Syncing - This is good lip syncing because every time he speaks or sings it is matched with the song so it looks like he is actually singing the song from where he is but its not it was all pre-recorded in a studio, but he lip synced it very well to make it look like he was singing it as his mouth was matching the song exactly all the way through even tho with all the different shots it went into he matched the lip syncing to the song and it makes you think was he really lip syncing it cause it was that good.

Bad Lip Syncing - This is a bad lip-syncing music video because you can hear the song but it doesn't match their mouths, as they are a band its more difficult to pull of lip syncing as they will all do it at different times and this just makes it obvious that its lip syncing but when its obvious than you know its bad, when they all stand together and try to sing the same thing all there mouths move at different times but the you don't hear the extra voices or the song going out of tune so this is why you know its bad lip syncing.

Good - This is good because the song matches the beat throughout the video, either it be when you hear the beat the scene cuts to another scene or either the beat happens the background matches the song, this is good because it makes the song and the visual experience much for entertaining because you can match the to together and it makes it much more enjoyable to watch, when videos don't do this you seem to lose interest as it's not matching and you don't really get the feel of the song but because this music video does it you can get the feel of the beat and the song.
Bad - This is bad at cutting to the beat because it simply just doesn't do it, its a horrible music video with a horrible song but it just doesn't cut to the beat, the shots are too long, it hardly has any instruments playing just a piano and drum line and because the music video isn't matching you lose the interest in it, if it cut to the beat it may have a chance of actually being a good video but for the music it is just bad even though it has a large amount of viewers the song is bad and does not look or sound professional.

Different types of music videos

A animation is where there is no real people in the video it is all computerized like cartoons, using animation helps with making a scenario that's not really real to happen such as flying in the sky, you can create anything you want from animation and it can be child friendly but sometimes its not it just adds something different to it, my chosen video is Tempa T - Fletcher which is an example of a animation that is not really child friendly verbally.
Animation -My chosen video is Tempa T - Fletcher as it is has a cartoon feel all the way through it, it starts off with a cartoon boy putting the TV on and Tempa T is on and as the boy slowly watches the TV with Tempa T on it he wants to be more like Tempa T and you see this at 1:10 he gets a mustache just like Tempa T's cartoon than at the end he ends up with the same haircut 2:47 but throughout the whole thing it is nothing but animation, you don't see anything other than animation you see no real people or anything outside that is real it is all made on the computer fully animation and this is something different and can probably be shown to a younger audience as they are not seeing real people fighting or getting beat up its simply just like playing their video games but in a music video.

Interpretive allows you to understand what is going on by relating, relating the song lyrics to what is going on in the video, this is useful because the video makes more sense instead of saying something and completely doing something different, if the song is funny than why not add in visuals to make it even more funnier?
Interpretive - The song chosen for interpretive is Lonely Island - On a boat because throughout the song if you listen to the lyrics you can visually see it being done, you can hear him talking about flipping burgers and in the video you can hear and see it at 1:16 and it does this throughout the song all the way through where whatever they say they show them visually doing it this is good because you can keep up with the lyrics and understand what they are saying because they are giving you visuals of what they are doing, plus it can add humor into it and nobody hates humor so its a positive to have an interpretive music video.

A narrative is when it has some sort of story line and you can see it in the music video, usually the song matches the story so if its more of an upbeat song than you will see some fast paced action the video but if its slow and steady than you will most likely have a slow story line where there are not as many cuts happening.
Narrative - November Rain - Guns N' Roses - This is narrative because at 1:41 they are in a chapel getting married than at the end at 8:45 his standing over her grave, the reason it is narrative is because it has a story, a story of a couple getting married but later showing the funeral of the women with a half coffin, this indicates that we most probably has an injury to the head which people with respect should not see, this could be a bullet to a head of suicide or at 5:36 walk past a gun store which presumes he is the shooter, this could also explain why he is over the coffin of the women as he feels guilt and regrets it.

Impressionist music videos allow the song to match the mood of the artist, if the video is based on someone close has died to them than the music video will be slow and sad but if its more of a happy song you'll get a more faster upbeat song to match the mood, i chose Melanie Martinez - Carousel because it has that creepy feel when you listen to it, the visual in the music video shows an abandoned carnival and this matches the beat and flow of the song.
Impressionist - Melanie Martinez - Carousel
The song matches the music videos mood because it has a slow tempo and the song itself is slow on the movements and singing but also the song is creepy and it shows that in the music video such as 0:36 you wouldn't really want to see that if you went to a carnival, the song has a creepy beat to it and the music video is dark apart from the lights of the rides but it matches the song because its a creepy beat with a creepy video because it has that abandoned carnival feel to it and at night that's probably scary 3:45.

Performance is just about the artist, so in a performance music video you will mainly see the artist throughout the video, my choice was Foo Fighters - The Pretender because it has allot of camera language on the artist  and this is what performance is about, having the main focus on the artist.
Performance - Foo Fighters - The Pretender is a performance because if you watch the music video you can see the band all playing their separate instruments and it has no story line it is just based on them and focused on them singing and playing but it also changes the shots used on the band and have quick edits but mainly it is all focused on the band and nothing else, there is about 95% of the band in the whole video and the other 5% is about what is happening around them and what they are singing about so it is all performance based.

A parody in music videos is taking the mick out of the original song its mainly to make people laugh by changing the lyrics but still fits the song, i chose Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea 'Problem' because i find it funny at how they change the lyrics of the song to take the mick out of the artists and the song such as they say Iggy Azalea looks like a man they have a man playing the role of Iggy Azalea.
Parody - Parody of Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea 'Problem'
this is a parody because it takes the mick out of the original song but it also uses the same exact shots as the original song, its a parody because the makers change the lyrics but also take the mick out of the artists, you can see this at 0:07 "I look like a dude dressed as a girl" this is saying that they think Iggy Azalea looks like a man that dresses like a girl, what makes it a good parody is that it is funny and that is what parody's aim to do like this one.

A genre video is where you see a music video it signify s the typical things you would see in the music video, such as rap, rap will contain money, drugs and women its just a typical thing that you will see in a typical rap video and it goes to the same with every other music videos such as dance you will typically have a club, bar or DJ in it, a genre video is just where you can tell what genre it is, it also needs the camera angles to fit the genre.
Genre Video - This is a typical rap video because in the music video you can see women as an accessory to show that he is at the top, it shows allot of sexual content through out it but this is typical from a rap music video because in rap music videos if you don't have a female in your music video you aren't at the top of the game and the music video isn't great, in this sort of genre you need some sort of sexual content involved otherwise it doesn't appeal to the audience because in rap that's what it's all about now a days, if you have a rap video where you have no sexual content and have a video where you do have sexual content than you will find that the one with the sexual content will be more successful than the one without it because it appeals to the audience and that's what the audience wants to see when listening to this sort of music.

A genre subverting video is where it displays the opposite of what it is, Eminem does this very well in music videos because in his music videos he is a rapper but in the videos you don't see him throwing money around or have women dancing half naked in the background he does the opposite of what you would expect in a rap video so i chose Eminem - The real slim shady.
Genre Subverting Video - Eminem - The real slim shady is a genre subverting video because instead of rapping about women and having women in his music video he raps but makes it funny, at 2:14 you see Eminem with all look a likes and at 0:18 he looks like his a patient in a mental hospital, now you don't see sexual content in this video which this genre usually involves but Eminem is smart in his choice of lyrics and how he shows them, Eminem is someone who takes his music seriously but shows it in a funny way in music videos and this is one of them as his not around girls stripped down so their half naked, his in some sort of mental hospital.

Referencing videos usually tend to have some sort of relation with another product, this can come in many forms such as a song making a music video about a film or the song being on the film its self such as sound tracks, i chose Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign - Shell Shocked ft. Kill The Noise & Madsonik as it contains clips from the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Referencing - This is a referencing video because in the music video it shows you clips of teenage mutant ninja turtles which is now a movie and the song is based around it but you also see the artists rapping to it, this is good for the movie because people who might not of heard about it might now know about it as they are using big artists and multiple artists so it would be hard to get a good audience, you can see the artists at 0:12 and the movie clips throughout the music video but also at 2:12 now this can be good for both the institution and film because they will be creating a much wider audience and with a wider audience comes more profit so both the institution and film has achieved something that they wouldn't of achieved by them selves.

A Surreal/Abstract is a video that you would find strange or weird, a video which is not a video that you would normally watch it has things that are not normal, this can be something like a red sky with Santa with a machine gun killing randoms things, its weird and strange.
Surreal/Abstract - This is a weird and strange video because the location of it is weird but also what she is wearing makes it even weirder, at 0:32 it looks like she is wearing feathers like a bird which you wouldn't really look at and think oh this is just a normal video where a women is dressed up as a bird with mist around her with small little planets, no, this is a weird video because its not something that you see allot and it makes the audience think, 'What am i watching' because its not normal and it all just takes place in a place that doesn't even exist.

Pastiche/Homage is where it has some sort of identical scenes such as a music videos copying a scene from a film, i chose Iggy Azalea - 'Fancy' because it has identical camera language to clueless and it copys the setting, if you play both of them together they are identical apart from the actors because they have the same clothing and everything but the only difference is the faces of the artists.
Pastiche/Homage - Iggy Azalea song fancy is the same as the movie clueless, all the shots are exactly the same in the music video and the movie as in every shot, Iggy is wearing the exact same clothing as the main actor and also the camera shots and angles are perfect as they are exactly the same as in the movie and music video making the music video and movie very similar and if you knew both the song and movie you would be able to say, ' this music video has scenes from the movie as clueless'
Here is the Movie but with the song in the background as you can see the shots are very similar, the music video has used these shots from the movie in their music video to replicate the movie and fit the song.
Here is the original music video.

The Purpose Of Music Videos

A artist in a music video that is controversial is someone named Miley Cyrus who released a music video called wrecking ball, this is controversial because she changed her image completely from being on a channel for kids to someone who is half naked on a wrecking ball, we used to see Miley as a innocent girl but from this music video you can see their is no existence of the previous Miley who use to entertain kids. Sitting on a wrecking ball half naked is not something you would want your children to watch because its not acceptable, she has moved away, far away from her Disney days, she has completely changed her image and wants people to forget about her being a children entertainer and create a whole new image for herself more of a 'Bad girl' and this has a negative effect as people just don't understand how their kids was watching someone who had this in themselves and the negativity comes from this as their favorite actor became a half naked women on a wrecking ball swinging back and fourth.

This is a good video that raises awareness because in the video they have a a massive setup were a small ball rolls along this setup which sets off different areas of the setup which at the end they get paint shot at them, this video is something that you go back to watch because you wonder, 'how did they do that?' and you keep watching it and you mention it to your friends to watch it and than the word gets spread more and more and people begin to talk about it and at the end the people who made it are well known because people just get mind blown when they see it and think "that's not even possible" raising awareness is good for the artist or band because they will have a larger audience and a larger audience means more fans and more fans means they are more likely to make more profit as more people are buying their songs.

Art - Art is good in music videos because it adds colour and and allows the audience to feel more free and just get lost in the video, you mainly remember the video instead of the lyrics and from Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dog - California Gurls you mostly remember the scenes as there is so much colour in it and so much happening you forget about the lyrics and just get lost in the video all you can think of when someone mentions the name to you is, 'is that the video in candy land' because all throughout the video you just remember the dancing and background etc, art in a music video also has an extended play ability as you can watch it in the future but it is also risky because if the art is not good people would not like it as it doesn't fit well with the music video, so really the art has to go with the flow of the music or it would be a mess and no one would like it and that means no one will buy it apart from the odd people so the institution and artist make hardly any profit.

Extended Play-ability - Michael Jackson thriller is a well known song that everyone knows as he was the king of pop everyone around the world knew who he was as he was the best of the best at what he done and from this song everyone knew the dance to it and even now it gets played allot and people still like it, this is why it has an extended play ability because people still want to watch it and at the time the video was a bit weird so it had people talking and now if someone asked their parents what song had the biggest success they would probably mention Michael Jackson's Thriller and than search it up and listen to it, it also has one of the biggest hits on YouTube and if you typed Michael Jackson on YouTube or Google Thriller will be up there as it has one of the most viewed and searched music videos even tho it is an old video and since Michael Jackson is dead but people still buy his albums.
(Explain why its still a good video)

Synergy - This was important for the music artist and the for the film as it helped boost up more sales, it is important to use synergy because it helps bond with the audience and allows it to become more entertaining as James Bond has great films and when you make a soundtrack for a great film its going to be a great song which people would want to search up and download, its good for both the film and music video because if you play the soundtrack and asks where did you get it from you'll probably mention the film you got it from also so in both ways its a win win for the music and film as they both together are creating a greater audience which couldn't be achieved without synergy
Another example - This is another example of synergy and is a good one because it aims for lower aged audience than probably James Bond because its now teenage mutant ninja turtles, adults can watch this but it was mainly based for a lower aged audience but this is a good because its uses big successful artists and a successful TV show and put them together to create a great soundtrack for a great film, both the artist and film probably made huge profit from this as big artists and big film have been put together persuading people to watch it, the music video contains footage from the film which also helps at persuading people who have never heard of the film because they have put the best clips from the film into the music video.

Music 1

Social Media - Facebook and twitter is used by many artists from big to upcoming, (Eminem) is one of these artists who likes to post his videos onto these social media sites.  Social media can be a good source for distributing music videos as it allows users to share the video to their friends and fans, this creates a larger audience for the producer(s) as more people are getting to know who they are and they may also enjoy their songs. There also come disadvantages of posting their music videos onto social media such as neither the artist of the record label earn no money as they are posting it for free but for the company of Facebook and twitter or other social media it earns them more users, this happens when the artist releases their music video onto these sites and people want to view them they must create accounts gaining more users of the institution, a disadvantage of the audience would be that they have to search for the music video instead of typing it in and it coming up straight away as on streaming websites such as YouTube.

Streaming Websites - Streaming websites are the place where you can find almost every music video you are looking for,YouTube is one of these streaming websites where I like to find music videos and it is used by many users around the world, many artists benefit off streaming websites (YouTube) because they can post their music videos onto these websites and people can watch them for free, this is good for the audience of the artist because they can watch them for free but a disadvantage for the artist because they don't earn as much money as they would do if people actually bought the song, but in some ways it does help the artist as people view it and if they like it and want to help to artist they can buy their music videos but by watching the videos they are also helping the artist because the more views they have on the video the more popular the video will become and it will get talked about or shared between people gaining a massive audience as there are millions and millions of people who use YouTube.

Artist's Websites - Artist websites is where they post music videos but they only show you small clips of the music video as they want you to buy it so the audience can watch it, this is good for the record label as they are getting paid for what the audience buy on their website like the music videos, giving short clips of music videos is very effective as it allow the audience to get a taster of what they are watching, and if they like it, they buy it. This is good for the record label and artist because the money they are getting from music videos on the artists site is going directly to them as it is their site, the bad thing for the audience may be they like the music video but they just don't have the money to spend on the music video so they wont buy it so in this case on both sides it is bad for the institution and the audience, also people may not want to buy the song and just watch the free clip and then they leave the artists websites and use streaming sites and this means the artists website will have less users as people can just watch the videos for free instead of helping the artist and record label.  http://www.kendricklamar.com/

Mainstream TV - Mainstream TV is accessible for everyone such as ITV as it is free and allows anyone to watch it so it reaches out for a wider audience which is good for the record label and artist because if they are featured on Mainstream TV they will most likely get more recognized, as any person of what age can watch it, this allows them to search up their music videos and if they want to go find a website where they can buy their music videos than they can buy it, it will allow the record label, artist and the distributor to gain some money. The artist can gain a lot of popularity by Mainstream TV as most people have TV and can watch it with their family, but the bad thing for the record label also is the timing in which the distributor decides to play it, this is because people may be working at these times at which the show is being played and won't see the music video so they may not even hear of the music video and not buy it or watch it on whatever they use, this lowers the potential of the people watching the music video and the profit they could gain.

Music Channels - Music channels are free such as 4 music which is great for the audience because they only play music videos but a downfall is they only play one genre, this is good for audience who like to listen to one genre throughout their day. A bad thing for the record label is that they don't get to choose when their song gets played, so the music video could be played when no one is at home due to school or work, this is bad because no one will watch the music video and it may go anonymous to them and not even know their is a music video and this injures the record label due to people not seeing the music video so they most likely won't buy it if they like it. It is good for the audience because when they come back from a long day they can go back home and switch the TV on and watch some music videos as everyone mainly has a TV they can go to and because its on TV it is extremely likely that a lot of people will see the music video and enjoy it and gain a wider audience, this helps because when they watch the music video and enjoy what they see they will do more research on the artist and listen to their other songs and if they like them they can buy them and this means the artist and record label are making money just by putting their music videos and the music channels.

Downloads (Legal and illegal) - Legal downloads are good for the record label and artist as legal downloads you mainly have to pay to get them so therefore the money will be going to the record label and artist instead of illegal downloads where you don't have to pay. Illegal downloads such as pirate bay is good for the audience because they can download the music video for free which means they don't have to pay for the music they want which would cost them a bit of money which they could be saving up for something else that they need but it can be negative as well as you may get a virus from doing an illegal download as the illegal downloads (distributor) is not from a legit site and can give you these viruses and this is the negative of downloading music for free when you can download it from a legit site when a legal download is legit and safe, legal download is bad for the audience because they have to pay for it but they don't have the threat of getting a virus and they are also helping the artist by giving the portion of the money to them. Pirate bay is one of the most illegal but successful sites out there that do this it has made a big name for its self as if you mentioned pirate bay to anyone they would probably tell you what it is and and has a wide audience who uses it, there must be more than a million downloads a day on pirate bay.

Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Releases - A bad thing about this is that just for a special edition music video the audience have to pay a lot of money and some people just don't have that type of money to spend when they can watch it on a streaming website for free, so this is a negative for the audience, but for the record label and artist they are getting allot of money from people who are buying it as they set it at a high price, the distributor also gains money from these as they are the ones selling the artists music videos. A good thing for the audience when buying this is that with a special edition of the music video you get extras that you won't find anywhere else this allows the user to get their moneys worth but help out the artist, institution and distributor as well. http://www.discogs.com/Kelly-Clarkson-Breakaway/release/3341163 a succesful person who made a lot of money off selling CD/DVD releases was the king of pop Michael Jackson and even tho he is dead he is still selling his CD's around the world, still making money even tho he is dead, that is more than successful.
